Minister Pandor leads South African delegation at the Meeting of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation

 

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, is today, 07 July 2021, leading a South African Government delegation at the virtual Meeting of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

 

The meeting is hosted by Botswana, current Chair of the Organ. The video conference meeting was preceded by a meeting of the Senior Officials held on 05 and 06 July 2021.

 

The agenda of the meeting is divided into two sections.

 

The first section focuses on the political and security situation in the region and will also reflect on SADC’s implementation of the UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. It is also expected that, in this section, the meeting will deliberate on the consolidation of democracy in the region, focussing on elections to be held in SADC between July and December 2021 and the Draft Guidelines for Election Observation under Public Health Emergencies.

 

The second section focuses on defence, police sector and immigration issues.

 

The South African delegation includes the Ministers of Defence and Military Veterans; State Security; Police; Home Affairs and Justice and Correctional Services.
