United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week Media Programme

21 September 2025

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is the premier multilateral platform for addressing pressing global issues, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, and international cooperation. South Africa has a longstanding tradition of active participation at UNGA, reflecting its commitment to multilateralism, human rights, and global governance reform.

For the 2025 session in New York, the South African delegation is expected to play a critical role in advancing national priorities, strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, and promoting Africa’s collective voice in international affairs. South Africa will also use the opportunity to amplify its priorities for the G20 Presidency.

South Africa’s participation at UNGA 2025 comes at a time when the international community faces significant challenges: post-pandemic recovery, conflicts affecting global stability, climate adaptation, unilateral tariffs by the USA, and the restructuring of multilateral institutions.
