Minister Pandor to host the Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic
The Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, will on Tuesday, 24 January 2023, host her counterpart from the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nikolaos Dendias, on the occasion of his Working Visit to South Africa.
The visit provides an opportunity for both Ministers to deepen engagement and discussion on various topics of mutual interest, including regional and international issues. The visit, the first such to be undertaken by a Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic since 1998, is significant given the large Greek Diaspora who have settled in South Africa and played a key role in the fight against Apartheid as well as contributing significantly to the South Africa economy.
It is expected that the visit will provide the necessary impetus for various areas of cooperation to be explored, including in the fields of culture and education, renewable energy, tourism, and diplomatic training.
Trade between the two countries has yet to reach its full potential. However, a bilateral trade and investment seminar organised by the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce in July 2022, identified various sectors where opportunities could be pursued by the business sectors of both countries.
