Important announcement on working hours during the 2025 December holiday period:

The last day for the submission of documents for legalisation through the Booking System will be19 December 2025. The last day for the delivery of documents by courier to the Internal Mail section will be17 December 2025. Bookings will re-open from 6 January 2025. No walk-in or booking clients can be accommodated from 22 December 2025 to 5 January 2026.

The online booking system is intended for individuals who require legalisation of public documents for use abroad. These include civic documents issued by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), verification letters of academic qualifications, such as the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), Umalusi letters, and South African Police Service (SAPS) Clearance Certificates, among other.

Agencies acting on behalf of clients must continue to submit applications via the courier route until further notice.

IMPORTANT: You are encouraged to submit your own applications; however, immediate family members within the first step of kinship (including grandparents) will be permitted to submit applications on behalf of each other without a special power of attorney or letter of authority.

NON-FAMILY members may only submit documents on behalf of ONE acquaintance when presenting a special power of attorney or letter of authority along with proof of identity. The documents will also be verified to ensure that the documents match the details of the person granting power of attorney.

PROOF OF IDENTITY IS REQUIRED IN ALL CASES

Clients for each timeslot will be called to the Legalisation section waiting area from the main lobby. After being assisted at the window, you will receive a reference number for your documents, and you must return to the main lobby, where the documents will be returned to you once issued.
