Deputy Minister Botes to address the International Youth Day Symposium

Deputy Minister Alvin Botes will on Monday, 12 August 2019, address the International Youth Symposium at the Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The symposium will be held under the theme “Transforming education”. This year’s theme highlights efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

12 August was first designated International Youth Day by the UN General Assembly in 1999, and serves as an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in change, and an opportunity to raise awareness about challenges and problems facing the world’s youth.

International Youth Day 2019 will examine how Governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education and how these efforts are contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The aim of the symposium is to among others promote various ways to engage the youth in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions towards the transformation in the education sector and broadly in society.
