First ID DOCUMENT & ADULT PASSPORT
To apply for 1st ID document and 1st adult passport, your child must be at least 15.9 years of age.
The average processing time is six to nine months.
You can only apply for the new passport if the validity of your passport is less than 2 months.
REQUIREMENTS:
Please ensure that you come with two sets of the following:
- The original application forms with original supporting documents, and
- Copies of the completed set (Application forms and supporting documents.
CHECKLIST OF THE DOCUMENTS AND FORMS TO BE SUBMITTED:
- Form DHA-73 (you can download the form from our website and complete it fully in black ink (do not sign the form).
- Form BI/DHA-529 fully completed on both sides in black ink (do not write N/A, to be signed in front of the Embassy Official.
- Form DHA-9 (This form cannot be downloaded, you will be given the form at the Embassy)
- Child’s (applicant’s) SA unabridged birth certificate (where both the parents’ names are mentioned)
- Applicant’s Swiss unabridged birth certificate if born in Switzerland.
- If you have dual nationality, please provide proof as to how and when you acquired the foreign nationality, such Naturalization /Registration Certificate or foreign birth certificate issued by the Embassy/ letter from the authorities stating the date you acquired the nationality. (Please note that a foreign passport is not proof of foreign citizenship/nationality as it does not indicate as to when(date) and how you acquired the citizenship)
- Both the parents’ documents such as their ID documents, passports, SA permits, SA birth certificates, their marriage certificates, proof of their foreign citizenship etc., Please note that a foreign passport is not proof of foreign citizenship/nationality as it does not indicate as to when(date) and how you acquired the citizenship)
- Marriage certificate / Legalised/Apostille marriage certificate if married outside SA to be submitted by married applicants irrespective of they will or will not change their surname.
- Six clear professionally taken colour photos of full face of applicant, showing only head and shoulders measuring 35mm x 45mm. Without glasses and clear forehead (Not covered by hair)
- Documents issued in foreign languages must be officially translated into English
- 1st ID document is free.
- No CASH payments are accepted. Application fee may be done via Bank Transfer or QR Code. The details will be provided during your appointment.
- Self Addressed registered envelope for return document/s.
If you do not comply with the requirements, you will not be assisted and therefore you will have to book a new appointment.
The average processing time is six to nine months, and you will be notified by e-mail as soon as the ID document and passport is received, You can collect the documents together if you prefer.
The collection time is between 09:30 am to 12:00 pm Monday to Friday except for Public Holidays (Closed).
