South Africa, led by the Department of Science and Innovation participated in the Swiss Biotech Day 2026 in Basel, Switzerland from 03 May -07 May 2026. Swiss Biotech Day 2026 offers a premier platform for networking, collaboration, and showcasing innovation in biotechnology.

South Africa occupies an important position in the global innovation landscape. It is generally considered one of Africa’s strongest scientific and research hubs. A regional leader in higher education and advanced research.

Strong in sectors like mining technology, fintech, renewable energy, health research, and astronomy. Therefore, it makes sense and is important that South Africa partakes in important events of this nature.

12  SME’s had an opportunity to interact with international partners and explore suitable opportunities in countries that attended.

This year’s event was considered by far the biggest and most international edition of the Swiss Biotech Day ever.
