Deputy Minister Mashigo-Dlamini to speak at the launch of the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty

 

The Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, will on Monday, 09 December 2019, deliver remarks at the launch of the Third United Nations (UN) Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty.

 

The South African Government, together with the Office of the UN Independent Expert on Children Deprived of Liberty and the University of Pretoria’s Centre for Human Rights, will jointly host the Southern African Regional Launch of the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty.

 

Representatives from SADC member states have been invited to participate at this event. UN Agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), academia, civil society organisations and the South African Human Rights Commission have also been invited.

 

Other speakers at the event include former Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs, the UN Independent Expert dealing with the mandate, Prof Manfred Nowak, and South Africa’s independent expert sitting on the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Prof Ann Skelton.
