South Africa in collaboration with UNIDROIT to host a Diplomatic Conference on MAC Protocol

South Africa, in collaboration with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), will on Monday, 11 November 2019 to Friday, 22 November 2019, host a Diplomatic Conference to adopt an international treaty aimed at facilitating the financing of Mining, Agricultural and Construction (MAC) equipment.

All member states of the United Nations have been invited to the Diplomatic Conference and it is expected that more than 200 delegates representing their governments as well as observer international organisations will be attending the Diplomatic Conference. By hosting this Diplomatic Conference, South Africa will build on its legacy when it hosted a very successful Diplomatic Conference that adopted the UNIDROIT Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment (Cape Town Convention) in 2001 which has, in addition to its Aircraft Protocol, become two of the most successful international commercial law treaties ever. The MAC Protocol will be the fourth protocol under the Cape Town Convention, and it was preceded by the aircraft, rail and space protocols.
