Deputy Minister Botes to anchor a symposium on South Africa’s role in fostering multilateralism
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in partnership with Nelson Mandela University, will host a symposium reflecting on the role South Africa plays in fostering multilateralism in Africa and the rest of the world. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 May 2021.
Deputy Minister Alvin Botes will deliver the keynote address, focusing on the country’s role in the continent and globally.
Having spearheaded the country’s recently concluded tenures as the Chair of the AU and non-permanent member of the UNSC, DIRCO is on a mission to take these reflections to institutions of higher learning, with Mandela University’s Faculty of Humanities hosting the inaugural symposium.
Panellists to the symposium are University of Pretoria’s Department of Political Sciences senior lecturer, Dr Sithembile Mbete, and Chief Executive Officer of the African Peer Review Mechanism, Prof. Eddie Maloka.
