VENEZUELA 

Venezuelans do not need a visa if their stay is less than 90 days. This condition also applies to other countries such as Andorra, Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Chile, Ecuador, Iceland, Israel, Jamaica, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Singapore, Switzerland and Uruguay. 

COLOMBIA 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY IN CARACAS: VENEZUELA IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR AS A RESULT OF THE RECENT TWIN EARTHQUAKES

Recalling that the South African Embassy is in the central business district in Caracas in a multi storey building 9th floor, while sharing floor space with the Embassy of Italy on the Atrium Building.

Following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June 2026, the CSM has received the reports from the Municipality explicitly cautioning the danger of accessing the office at this stage. The report highlighted the structural compromises of safety due to falling debris as a result continuous aftershocks occurring daily. 

Given the attached reports, the Mission will continue to work remotely until to avoid both internal and external hazards in and around the Atrium Building. 

On 10 July 2026, a 4.1 earthquake rattled sections of Caracas and the tremor was felt and workers were evacuated from their buildings, though no injuries or damages were reported.

Applicants for visas are advised to contact the South African Embassies in Brazil and Chile until the reopening of the Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.

The visa procedure is carried out through the South African Embassy in Caracas – Venezuela. 

  • The processing time is approximately 15 working days.  
  • The visa is granted at the discretion of the Embassy.  
  • Visa applications are received 30 days prior to the date of travel.  
  • Incomplete documents received by the Embassy may be returned and will incur a new postage fee.  

Tourist and business visa requirements: 

  • Ordinary machine-readable passport must be valid for at least 30 days after the date of completion of the planned trip and a minimum of two blank pages. 
  • Form DHA-84 duly completed in black ink (must be printed on both sides of the pages). 
  • Two recent 3.5 x 4.5 cm photographs in a blank envelope. 
  • Original and photocopy of the International Certificate of Yellow Fever Vaccination. 
  • Employment letter indicating position, salary and length of service. 
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months, with bank stamp. 
  • Printout of the reservation or photocopy of the itinerary. 
  • Certificate of medical insurance or photocopy of credit card indicating coverage in South Africa (You can purchase the corresponding medical insurance at our offices).  
  • Confirmation of accommodation from the hotel. 
  • Letter of invitation from a company or person in South Africa,  

For independents: 

Certificate of monthly income issued by an accountant (attaching a copy of the accountant’s professional card). 

If you go on businesses: 

Attach letter of invitation from the company from South Africa with signature, stamp, letterhead, address and telephone number.  

For minors under 18 years: 

Documents must be translated into English by an official Translator, authenticated and apostilled (you must travel with this documentation to avoid any inconvenience on entry into South Africa). 

Payment of applicable fees 

Please note that due to due to all economic sanctions and problems Venezuela is going through it is not possible to send or receive an international transfer. 

For the moment we are processing only payments in local currency (Bolivares Soberanos).

The international transfers are not possible to Venezuela.  

South African passports are issued only in Pretoria, South Africa. However, applications must still be submitted or forwarded to the applicable South African representative office. 
Applications take four to six (4-6) months to be finalized.
