APPLICATION FOR NEW SA PASSPORT

The following documents need to be submitted for a new SA Passport:

  • Form BI-73 (BLANK INK PEN ONLY) Application for new SA passport (duly completed) (the signature on the first page to be sign only at the Embassy”) Applications must be submitted in person!
  • form BI-9E, duly completed with full set of fingerprints (to be obtained from Embassy or Honorary Consul)
  • form BI-529E Determination of Citizenship
  • €67,00 (Euro sixty-seven) application fee (via bank transfer only – see details below for the SA Embassy Vienna). In accordance with Treasury Instruction, you are charged a double fee if your passport was lost/damaged/stolen.
  • South African citizens whose circumstances necessitate frequent travel are entitled to a maxi passport (48-pages). A detailed motivation on a company letterhead must be included. The fee in this regard is €133,00 (Euro one hundred and thirty-three)
  • 2 x recent EU passport size photographs in respect of applicant (in line with photo specifications) (not older than 6 months)
  • Copy of previous SA passport (for first passport copy of birth certificate)
  • Copy of marriage certificate (in English) together with copy of spouse’s passport (if applicable)
  • If born outside of South Africa and obtained citizenship in South Africa by means of Permanent Residence and naturalization a copy of Naturalisation Certificate must be included
  • If not collecting in person also submit a self-addressed A5 envelope (Luftpolsterkuvert) with stamps to the value of €6,80 (per Einschreiben) affixed to it.

Forms must be completed in black ink. Carefully read page 3 of the passport form before completing the application. For the taking and certification of the fingerprints and photos and the certification of Par. B of the passport application form please contact the South African Embassy, nearest South African Representative (Honorary Consul) in your area or the local police authority.

The processing could take approximately 4– 8 months.

All documents not in English have to be officially translated.

APPLICATION FOR FIRST IDENTITY DOCUMENT/RE-ISSUE OF IDENTITY DOCUMENT

Any South African reaching the age of 16 years must apply for an Identity Document. The following documents need to be submitted for a FIRST Identity Document:

  • form BI-9E and BI-529E (Determination of Citizenship), duly completed with full set of fingerprints (obtainable at Embassy or Honorary Consul)
  • 2 passport size photographs in respect of applicant (in line with photo specifications)
  • copy of birth certificate
  • copies of identity documents of both parents (in a case where parents have passed on, the lawful guardian will submit the certified copy of the court order certificate of adoption and certified copy of his/her identity document)
  • copy of marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • if born outside of South Africa and obtained citizenship in South Africa by means of Permanent Residence and naturalisation a copy of Naturalisation Certificate must be included
  • A self-addressed A5 envelope (Luftpolsterkuvert) with stamps to the value of €9,00 (Euro nine) (per Einschreiben) affixed to it if not collected in person.

The following documents need to be submitted for the RE-ISSUE of Identity Document:

  • form BI-9E and BI-529E (Determination of Citizenship), duly completed with full set of fingerprints (obtainable at Embassy or Honorary Consul)
  • €11,00 (Euro eleven) application fee (bank transfer only – see details below for the SA Embassy Vienna)
  • 2 passport size photographs in respect of applicant (in line with photo specifications)
  • copy of previous ID (if available)
  • copy of marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • if born outside of South Africa and obtained citizenship in South Africa by means of Permanent Residence and naturalization a copy of Naturalisation Certificate must be included
  • A self-addressed A5 envelope (Luftpolsterkuvert) with stamps to the value of €9,00 (Euro nine) (per Einschreiben) affixed to it if not collected in person.

For the taking and certification of the fingerprints and photos and the certification of the application form please contact the South African Embassy, nearest South African Representative (Honorary Consul) in your area or the local police authority. Please be advised that the completed application for the Identity Document will be forwarded to South Africa for processing which could take approximately 12-16 weeks.

The Embassy is open Monday; Tuesday; Thursday; Friday 08.30 – 12.00 without an appointment. The process takes 2 to 5 days.

consular SERVICES

  • The Embassy is open Monday; Tuesday; Thursday; Friday 08.30 – 12.00 (with appointment)
  • The embassy does not apostille. The documents will be sent to DIRCO for apostilling. It takes 4 months to 8 months
  • The applicants are to bring the original document to be apostilled and their passport copy.
  • The Embassy is open Monday; Tuesday; Thursday; Friday 08.30 – 12.00 (with appointment)
  • The Embassy can only assist with the forms to fill and take fingerprints.
  • To submit the application, the applicant has to send the application themselves to SAPS. The information will be available on the forms that we will provide.
  • The signing of documents in the presence of an officer of Oath for the purposes of purchasing or selling property or assets.
