If you are applying for two children, you must book two appointments.<\/p><p><strong>Appointment Requirements:<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ensure to come with BLACK INK pen <\/strong><\/span><\/li><li><strong>Child must be <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">at least 15. 9 months old to apply for 1st ID document.<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>To issue <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1<sup>st<\/sup> adult passport the child must be 16 years and above<\/span>. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>You can only apply for the new passport if the validity of the current passport is less than 12 months. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Applicants 16 years and older applying for first adult passport <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">must also<\/span> apply for an ID book along with the passport <\/strong><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Both parents must be present if the child is below 18 years old<\/strong><\/span><strong>.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>All application forms must be fully completed but not signed, as they must be signed in the presence of a Home Affairs Official.<\/strong><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ensure to come with all originals and 3 x copies of supporting documents (per application), <\/strong><\/span><strong>the official will certify them.<\/strong><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Please do not make firm travel bookings before obtaining your passport.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/li><li>As per DHA Circular third party collection of passports is strictly prohibited. If applying for a passport within South Africa, the DHA Office where the application is lodged, cannot redirect the passport for dispatch to the Mission.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>Forms and Documentation:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Complete forms fully in BLOCK LETTERS using BLACK INK, do not sign them.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ol><li><strong>Form <a href=\"https:\/\/dirco.gov.za\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/06\/DHA-73.pdf\">DHA-73<\/a><\/strong>: Must be downloaded and complete fully before your appointment date.<\/li><li><strong>Form <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sahc.org.au\/pdf\/bi-forms\/BI-529_Status_Determine.pdf\"><strong>BI-529<\/strong><\/a> :Must be downloaded and complete fully on both the sides before your appointment date.<ul><li>Determination of Citizenship Status. The purpose of this form is to establish that as a South African Citizen you have not lost your Citizenship and that all your details mentioned therein are according to the National Population Registrar.<\/li><li><strong><u>Specific Sections of the form DHA\/BI-529 to complete<\/u><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Part A:<\/strong> questions 9, 10 and 11 are most important for the applicant. N.B. Number 9 you must write the date you entered UK 1<sup>st<\/sup> time to live \/work in UK, number 10(d) must also be answered, by circling a No or a Yes. Circle \u201cNO\u201d if you do not have Retention of SA Citizenship Letter, Circle \u201cYES\u201d if you have a letter of Retention of SA citizenship, bring your 1st Retention letter\/certificate with you on the day of your appointment.<\/li><li><strong>Part B:<\/strong> The relevant marital status can be written next to the words \u201cMarital Status\u201d on the form (e.g. Never married\/ Married\/ Divorced\/Widowed). The details of the applicant\u2019s current or former spouse must then be completed on the DHA-529, whether deceased or divorced or widowed.<\/li><li>For Legalization of UK marriage certificates and UK divorce decrees visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-document-legalised\">https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/get-document-legalised<\/a>. (Refer to No.6 below)<\/li><li><strong>Part C and D<\/strong>: Both the parents\u2019 details must be completed including their ID numbers and foreign citizenship.<\/li><li><strong>Part E:<\/strong> sign in the presence of Official, Complete with valid telephone\/mobile number, email address (in block letters) and physical address must be provided.<\/li><li>Make 2 x copies of the completed original form DHA-529 before you attend the appointment\\<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Form DHA-9: <\/strong>This bar-coded form cannot be downloaded. You will get it on the day of your appointment.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong><u>DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED (Original plus 3xcopies of all documents)<\/u><\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>Current passport<\/strong> (last SA passport)<\/li><li>Applicant\u2019s <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>South African unabridged birth certificate<\/strong><\/span> (where both the parents\u2019 names are mentioned) If you do not have one, you will have to apply and wait to book an appointment until you receive one<strong>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Please note: You cannot submit your application without it)<\/span>. <\/strong><\/li><li>Also, applicant\u2019s <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">foreign unabridged birth certificate<\/span> if born outside RSA<\/li><li>If applicant <strong>has <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">foreign nationality<\/span><\/strong>, please provide proof as to how and when the foreign nationality was acquired\/granted, such Naturalization \/Registration Certificate or foreign birth certificate issued by the Embassy\/ letter from the authorities stating the date and means you acquired the nationality.<\/li><\/ol><ul><li><strong>Please note<\/strong>, a foreign passport\/birth certificate is not a proof of foreign citizenship\/nationality as it does not indicate when(date) and how you acquired the citizenship.<\/li><li>e.g. If you as an applicant have British citizenship and you do not have any of the above, you\/parents may visit the British Home Office <strong>web page: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/hm-passport-office-office.\"><strong>www.gov.uk\/hm-passport-office-office.<\/strong><\/a><strong>, to get the information how to obtain the document.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>You may also send an e-mail to: <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:DPA.Queries@hmpo..gov.uk\"><strong>Queries@hmpo..gov.uk<\/strong><\/a> <strong><u>attach copies of your UK passport, birth certificate and proof of your parents UK citizenship documents, if you are 16 years and above then you must send the e-mail.<\/u><\/strong><\/li><li>If you have any other nationality (other than British) and you do not have any of the above documents,\u00a0then please contact the country\u2019s authorities and request them a letter stating the <strong><u>date and means<\/u><\/strong> of you acquiring the citizenship\/nationality<\/li><li>If any document is in a foreign language, you must get them officially translated in English language. You must bring in copies of both the documents. i.e. document in foreign language and officially translated copies in English.<\/li><li>Do not book an appointment until you get the letter.<\/li><\/ul><ol start=\"5\"><li><strong>Marriage certificate<\/strong>. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the ID document and passport is received. You will receive two separate e-mails for each document. On receipt of both e-mails, you can collect both documents together as both the documents will be safely kept in the office for the limited period for your collection.
