Renunciation of South African citizenship:

Once your application is successfully lodged, do not to contact office until the turnaround of 12 months has passed. You will receive a confirmation of the outcome of your application by post. Do not plan any travel until you receive the certificates to produce at the border when entering South Africa 

  • Completed form BI-529 (Do not to write N/A or draw lines through the form if the question does not apply, leave blank). All forms to be completed in BLACK INK.
  • Complete form BI-246  2 copies in duplicate in BLACK INK. ( this no longer downloadable. New version is barcoded  . To request non downloadable  forms please email us a prepaid courier label for UPS or Purolator and inform us how many people are applying and for what . 
  • Certified copy of a foreign citizenship certificate showing the exact date of foreign citizenship acquisition Not the ID card
  • Original South African issued Identity Document and Passport
  • Certified copy of a South African birth certificate
  • Small Canada post express envelope for each application.

Make sure each family member has their own full set including your children and all original documents returned except birth certificate or marriage certificate
