The Ambassador

Ambassador Sifuba was born in New Brighton Township near Qbeberha. He grew up in Qbeberha and later went to Zwelitsha Township in eQonce (King Williams Town) to pursue his secondary education, finally ending up at Themba La Bantu High School, where in 1977 he was expelled for student protests.

He cut his teeth in political activism in Zwelitsha Township, King Williams Town and participated in the armed struggle against Apartheid Regime. He left the country in early 1978 and joined Umkhonto WeSizwe, the Military Wing of the African National Congress (ANC) and received military training in Angola. In 1979 he was part of a contingent of ANC students who were sent to Cuba to further their studies and later emerged as a leader of the ANC students in Havana.

Ambassador Sifuba graduated in Cuba with a BA Degree in Economics in 1988 and later went to Manchester University, UK where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development in 1990. Upon finish his studies he later worked for both the British Civil Service and Private Sector. Ambassador Sifuba has had an illustrious diplomatic career having started as a Political Counsellor in the SA Embassy in Japan, Minister Political in Washington DC, USA and as Ambassador in a number of countries namely, Equatorial Guinea (2012-2014), Indonesia (2014-2017), Eswatini (2018) and he is currently serving in Mauritania since May 2023.
