IN MEMORIAM: South African Diplomat Anthea Joubert Passes Away
The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Mexico deeply regrets the loss of the outstanding South African diplomat, Ms. Anthea Joubert. It is with great sadness that we announce her passing on 9 April 2024, leaving an indelible void in the diplomatic sphere and in the hearts of those of who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on April 17, Ms. Joubert closed a successful career in Mexico serving as Counsellor (Political) at this Embassy and working closely with two distinguished ambassadors: Sandile Nogxina and Dennis Thokozani Dlomo from 2017 to 2021. Her dedication and professionalism left an indelible mark on every task she undertook.
As a career diplomat, Ms. Joubert left her mark in several countries, including Italy and Russia, where she demonstrated her ability to build bridges and promote understanding between nations. Her passion for theatre, sculpture, opera and ballet led her to contribute significantly to the promotion of South African culture internationally.
One of the highlights of her career was directing the Nelson Mandela Centennial celebrations in Mexico, where she worked tirelessly to honour the legacy of South African icon, former President Nelson Mandela. His commitment to the promotion of key areas such as mining, trade, science and culture, through an extensive network of contacts in government, academia, private enterprise and NGOs, was instrumental in advancing South Africa’s international relations.
Her legacy will live on as that of a tenacious public servant of the Republic of South Africa, whose commitment and dedication inspired many. At this time of mourning, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her sister Ora, her family, friends and colleagues.
Rest in peace, Ms Anthea Joubert.
