Assistance and facilitation for the entry of South African nationals across the Kingdom of Jordan

The South African Embassy in Amman, in collaboration with Jordanian local authorities, is committed to assisting and facilitating the entry of South African nationals across the Kingdom of Jordan.

For travellers planning to leave Iraq by road and continue their journey by air, it is crucial to stay informed about the safety conditions and visa requirements at the border crossings.

To organise this process, the local authorities in Jordan, emphasised the following points, of the requirements for entry into the Kingdom of Jordan by foreign nationals (which needs to be provided to the Embassy before South African nationals enter the Kingdom of Jordan at the border crossings):

Mandatory requirements:

  1. Full name;
  2. Passport number;
  3. Nationality;
  4. Expected entry and departure dates;
    • an explicit pledge of the South African national to adhere to their departure from the Kingdom of Jordan by the specified date, with the exception of diplomats.
  5. Departure flight number;
  6. Place of residence in the Kingdom of Jordan;
  7. Using the Sheikh Hussein Bridge (northern crossing) or the Wadi Araba Crossing (southern crossing), as the King Hussein Bridge crossing is reserved for diplomats only;
  8. Obtaining electronic visas for Jordan before arriving at the border crossing is important to avoid congestion and delays in entry procedures to Jordan.

The Trebil Border Crossing serves as the main route for entering Jordan, but those intending to fly from Amman back to South Africa should be mindful that some flights may be irregular or cancelled.

Alternatively, the Ibrahim Khalil Border Post provides access to Türkiye, from Iraq, and offers added convenience with accessible and reliable air travel options like Türkiysh Airlines operating from Sirnak Airport. It is also easy for South African citizens to get an electronic visa online for Türkiye.

Both crossings serve as viable options for onward travel.
