Medical Elective<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

All visa applications have to be lodged in person at the mission in Canberra by prior appointment only.<\/b><\/em><\/p>

Temporary Study Permit<\/strong><\/p>

Persons wishing to complete their medical elective term at a hospital in South Africa are required to be in the possession of a study permit.<\/p>

ALL<\/strong>\u00a0the following documentation must be submitted:<\/p>

    1. Form\u00a0DHA-1738<\/a>. Application must be completed and signed in\u00a0black ink<\/strong>\u00a0only.<\/li>
    2. A valid machine readable Passport \/ Travel Document valid for no less than (30) days after the expiry of the intended visit with three (3) completely blank pages. Machine readable passports which have been manually extended are not accepted for visas and for travel purposes.<\/li>
    3. Two (2) photographs of applicant.<\/li>
    4. Medical Certificate<\/a><\/li>
    5. A letter from the university or hospital which the applicant is currently attending stating that the student is enrolled as a medical student.<\/li>
    6. A certified copy of the Certificate of Registration from the South African Health Professionals Council.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>

      PLEASE NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0In terms of the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act (Act 56 of 1974), it is a\u00a0CRIMINAL OFFENCE<\/strong>\u00a0to practice as a medical practitioner or intern or as a dentist in South Africa unless registered as such with the South African Health Professionals Council.<\/em><\/p>

      1. A letter from the University or Hospital in South Africa confirming that the student has been accepted to complete their medical term at that institution;<\/li>
      2. Details regarding arranged accommodation, if any;<\/li>
      3. That the applicant has sufficient funds to cover tuition fees, maintenance and incidental costs.<\/li>
      4. Police clearance certificate from the police authorities in each country where the applicant, after having attained the age of 18 years, has resided for 12 months or longer during the 5 years immediately preceding the date of application.<\/li>
      5. Copy of a travel itinerary\u00a0(PRELIMINARY BOOKING ONLY, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE FIRM TRAVEL BOOKINGS)<\/strong>.<\/li>
      6. Yellow fever certificates are required if the journey starts or entails passing through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America.<\/li>
      7. Non refundable fee of\u00a0AUD 37.00<\/strong>\u00a0payment to be made by way of a postal money order or bank cheque payable to the South African High Commission. Personal cheques or credit cards are\u00a0NOT<\/strong>\u00a0accepted.\u00a0Incorrect payment will not be accepted.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

        Submission of applications:<\/strong><\/p>

        According to the new Regulations an application for any visa referred to in section 11 up to and including sections 20 and 22 of the Act must submit his or her application in person to the:<\/p>
